April 22 Lager left behind 6:59 p.m. -- 100 block of GMD. Code Enforcement. A man told police that the cold can of Heineken beer sitting nearby was not his. He then raised it to his lips and said he would drink it anyway because someone had left it behind. He was issued a written warning for drinking a beer on the beach in front of police.

April 20 Burning rubber 7:26 a.m. - South Tamiami Trail and Bee Ridge Road. Road Hazard. A large tire was seen rolling down Bee Ridge Road and crossing Tamiami Trail. No word on its origin or destination.

April 17 Feel the burn 2:26 p.m. - 2100 block of GMD. Larceny. Two men were arrested for stealing heartburn medication at a drug store and trying to return it at a grocery store. The Longboat Key Publix store manager positively identified the suspects and the men were taken to the Sarasota Jail.

While the defendant was in the cosmetics department, he selected two packages of cologne. He then placed the merchandise inside his shirt and concealed the merchandise under both of his armpits.

April 14 Clean break 12:38 a.m. - 500 block of North Jefferson Avenue. Suspicious Person. The caller reported that a man was showering in an apartment complex's pool area. The man's clothing was piled on the ground near the shower.

April 9 Staying grounded 5:24 a.m. -- 400 block of Longboat Club Road. Boat Rescue. Police found a 40-foot fiberglass sailboat and three men stranded near the beach on the south end of the island. The boat owner told police they were on their way to Mississippi when a large wave damaged the boat. The boat ran aground while he tried to maneuver into New Pass. The boat was removed at high tide with the help of a salvage company and several boats.

The complainant reported the female suspect and an unknown white male came in and ordered $77.98 in food and drinks. The suspect and the unknown male received their drinks and appetizers. About an hour later, the suspect and the unknown male left the restaurant without paying the bill - but left behind a driver license.

April 6 Family food 10:55 p.m. - 2800 block of Trinidad Street. Battery. An uncle and nephew got into an argument while standing in the kitchen of the home they share. The nephew said his uncle was threatening him and then opened a drawer to grab a knife. The nephew said he grabbed his uncle by the neck in self defense. The uncle said he was making food during the argument and grabbed the knife to cut the food, not to hurt his nephew. Neither the nephew nor uncle wanted to press charges.

April 1 Lost in translation 1:41 p.m. -- 10 block of Winslow Place. Parking Violation. A man reported that a landscape crew parked on the shoulder of the road in front of his house. Police called the landscape company's office to let them know the crew, whose members did not speak English, could not park on the grass.

Mountainous mistake 2:20 p.m. - 1200 block of South Tamiami Trail. Shoplifting. A couple walked into a new-age shop. They purchased a few items, and, afterward, the wife decided to get a massage. While she was being kneaded, her husband sat down and picked up a magazine - "The Mountain Astrologer." After the massage, the couple walked toward the exit, and the security alarm sounded. The man had placed the magazine in his bag. He said it was a mistake, but he was arrested anyway.

Party problems. 4:34 p.m. -- 100 block of North Shore Road. Code Enforcement. A man reported that three men were on Beer Can Island "partying." Police found the underage suspects in a self-made lean-to with several empty beer cans nearby. The spring breakers were cooperative, and the remaining beer was emptied.

March 23 High school hooky 12:18 p.m. - 800 block of Orange Avenue. Suspicious Incident. A mother told police that her 17-year-old daughter left her high-school campus with an older teenage boy, who took her to Busch Gardens. Police were waiting for the two at school when they returned.
