3 a.m. crash kills Sarasota driver on Interstate 75

The incident took place about a mile south of the University Parkway exit.

A Sarasota man was killed early Sunday morning in a crash on Interstate 75, just south of University Parkway, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The 2006 Toyota Sequoia sports-utility vehicle truck was heading north on the highway, with a 36-year-old Sarasota man behind the wheel, the FHP said, when it left the road and overturned around 3 a.m. The driver, who was thrown from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not identified by name.

The crash remains under investigation.

According to state data as of June 6, 18 people have been killed on Sarasota County roads in 2026.
