The town of Longboat Key’s annual citizen satisfaction survey will be arriving to homeowners the week of Jan. 9.

The deadline for residents to fill out the online survey is Feb. 11.

Each resident will receive a letter in the mail with a unique identifier code and a set of instructions for completing the survey.

“Conducting such a survey proves invaluable by giving owners a voice in expressing their opinion of services, quality of life issues and town policy choices that affect their lives,” the town’s website reads. “The results will show how much consensus around policy issues which will enable town leaders to direct and shift town priorities.”

The town remains contracted with the John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government at the University of South Florida. Seeking knowledge of resident satisfaction costs the town about $23,000 annually.

Homeowners can access the survey online from their home computers, tablet or phone. If desired, residents can also fill out the survey at the kiosk located in Town Hall as long as they come prepared with their letter showing their unique code.

All answers to the approximately 50 questions included in the survey will be anonymous.

A variety of topics are covered in questions to residents and include the quality of town beaches, parks and town-owned amenities, departmental services such as police, fire and public works and events residents would like to see available at the Town Center.

New questions for the 2023 edition of the survey include use of emergency personnel, social media following, hurricane preparedness and the amount of time a resident actually lives on the barrier island.

The final report is expected to be complete and published by the end of April or early May.

The 2022 survey garnered responses from 1,441 residents with 99% of responses rating the overall quality of life on the Key as “excellent or good.” According to the final report, the town mailed 8,562 invitations to complete the survey, resulting in a response rate of about 16.8%.
