The Sarasota Art Museum leads guided tours of its exhibitions twice a week, and you have a chance to tag along on Wednesdays and Fridays. You'll learn about the themes and concepts that guide each exhibit, and you'll learn about the ties that bind them together. But most importantly, you'll have a chance to interact with art and you'll have a knowledgable guide to answer every question.

Cora Marshall, an artist and educator who earned a doctorate at New York University, will be displaying her work from Sept. 3 through Sept. 24 at the Arts Advocates Gallery. Marshall, whose work centers on contemporary African American artists, has shown her body of work all over the country and even as far away as Ghana.

Don't call them The Piano Men. Sergi Robles, Michael Fasano and Hank Kolnitz bring you the beloved songs of Long Island's patron saint, Billy Joel, in their interpretation of his classic songbook. You'll hear "Only the Good Die Young" and "For the Longest Time," among others, in this triumphant show imagined by Alexander Aguilar and John De Simini. And you'll have plenty of time to see it, as it runs through Oct. 9.

They're brothers who have turned their family memories into a collaborative art exercise. Come down to the Sarasota Art Museum and listen as Steven and William Ladd talk about their "Lead With a Laugh" exhibit. The Ladds build their art around a three-pronged discipline that encourages them to collaborate, to be focused and to do what they love. The Ladds' exhibit will run at the museum from Sept. 4 all the way through February 5 of 2023, so you'll have time to see it.

Shirley Rush Dean is Island Gallery West's Featured Artist for September, and you'll be able to view her work all month. But if you want the opportunity to meet the artist and ask her questions, you'll have a great chance to do that on Sept. 7. Dean, a former professor at the University of Maryland, mainly works in acrylics, and she's a signature member of the Florida Suncoast Watercolor Society.

ArtCenter Manatee's open show "Create" will be on display through the end of the month, and the first-place winner will be awarded a $1,500 prize. Rachel Stewart, a visual artist and educator, will serve as the juror. The exhibit will have an official opening reception on Sept. 8 between 5 and 7 p.m.

Give this Underachiever a break. Hendrickson, who built his career as a comedian and actor in New York, is now based in Los Angeles and bringing his brand of funny to audiences all around the country. His comedy CD, "Underachiever," was released in 2012 and includes his signature takes on not just wine tastings but also Starbucks and Tootsie Pops.

Urbanite Theatre opens its 2022-23 season with a limited special engagement. The work, written and performed by J. Elijah Cho, explores the infamous yellowface performance of Mickey Rooney in "Breakfast at Tiffany’s." Urbanite co-founder Brendan Ragan describes the production as "quite a poignant comedy, but it is a comedy." Runs through Sept. 11.
