As Florida begins to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic, restaurants can allow dine-in guests for the first time since March 20. On May 4, Phase I of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ plan to reopen the state went into effect and restaurants can now open for dine-in, provided they stick to 25% capacity and space out seating to at least six feet to encourage social distancing.

Some opened as soon as allowed, and others took some extra time. Still others remained closed.

Chiles Group, which operates Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant and Pub, opened dining facilities on Monday.

“We’re trying to be sure that we are following the protocols we need to make sure the store and restaurants are safe and clean for everybody,” Mar Vista events manager Jim Harwood said.

Those who are open in any capacity are still utilizing takeout and delivery orders, an aspect of restaurant life that seems to be sticking around for the foreseeable future. Dry Dock Waterfront and Grill, which is reopening its dining room, typically does not offer to-go meals in the evenings, when dine-in meals are the focus, said dining room manager Stacey Karas. Since they can only seat 25% of their normal capacity, they’ll still have the bandwidth to continue with evening to-go meals for a while yet.
