Get in the pre-Fourth of July spirit with this performance, which encompasses the soul of America. This wide-ranging program showcases Sarasota Music Festival students and faculty artists performing works written after the composers were inspired by a different aspects of America. The program will begin with Darius Milhaud’s chamber ballet La Creation du monde. Continued by, Antonin Dvorak’s American Quintet, composed during his summer in Spillville, Iowa. As well as American composer Aaron Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” will be performed in its original version for small ensemble.

This Sarasota Music Festival concert highlights the power of individuality. Composed in New York in 1919, Prokofiev’s Overture on Hebrew Themes was written for a Russian sextet whose members gave the composer a notebook of Jewish folk songs for inspiration. Praised for his “sparkling pianism and innate sense of partnership,” pianist Vijay Venkatesh, a 2017 festival alumnus, will star in Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 2. Tchaikovsky’s late Romantic masterpiece “Serenade for Strings,” has long been hailed as one of the composer’s greatest triumphs.

Put on your dancing shoes and enjoy this performance by Big Night Out. This seven-piece dance band specializes in Latin, island and R&B music. A fierce horn section adds to the foot-tapping rhythm section and passionate bilingual vocals. The band was voted “Best Bilingual Cover Band” by the Weekly Planet and has been performing for more than 10 years in and around Florida.

Want to make your Sunday afternoon especially relaxing? Spend it indoors at this concert at Michael’s on the Bay featuring Diego Figueiredo and Chiara Izzi. Figueiredo is a Brazilian guitarist who uses unique interpretations that combine jazz, bossa nova and classical music, and Izzi is a vocalist described by Jazz Times as “a talent to be heard, admired and anticipated.”

Head to Venice for a full week of theater with The American Association of Community Theatre WorldFest. Local political thriller author Sally Fernadez has published six books with Dunham Books in less than seven years. The hardworking author is stopping by the Selby Library to discuss her murder mystery “Climatized,” aka her fifth book that soon will be a movie, and her latest release, “The Beekeeper’s Secret.” The latter is the second in her series following the fictional smart-mouthed former CIA agent Max Ford.
