Updates: Offices and organizations reopen after Hurricane Irma

In the wake of Hurricane Irma, many offices and organizations are announcing reopenings. 

Monday, Sept. 11
  • The Northridge, Plaza at Palmer Ranch, Sarasota Pavilion and The Landings Publix locations are open. They will close at 7 p.m.
  • SCAT is operating, but using the Sunday service schedule. 
Tuesday, Sept. 12
  • All Publix locations will open at 8 a.m.
  • Sarasota County Administrative Building will reopen with limited operation. 
Wednesday, Sept. 13
  • Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium will open and resume normal operations. 
  • City of Sarasota offices will open.
  • Garbage pickup will resume for Sarasota and the cities of Venice and North Port.
  • All circuit courts in Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties are back to normal operations.
  • Gulf Gate and North Port libraries are open, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Friday, Sept. 15
  • Lido Pool reopens for regular hours, 10 a.m-4:45 p.m.  
Saturday, Sept. 16
  • Robert L. Taylor Community Complex Pool opens for regular hours, 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Monday, Sept. 18
  • Sarasota and Manatee County public schools will reopen.
  • New College and Ringling College classes resume and offices will reopen.

Tuesday, Sept. 19

  • The Longboat Library will reopen at 9 a.m. 

 

With Hurricane Irma nearing Florida, some upcoming local events have been canceled or postponed. Several offices and services were also closed or canceled in anticipation of severe weather.

These include:

Thursday, Sept. 7
  • The Siesta Key Association meeting has been canceled. The group will meet next on Oct. 5.
Friday, Sept. 8
  • Sarasota County beaches will close at 2 p.m. following a mandatory evacuation order for the barrier islands.
  • All Sarasota Publix locations will be closing at 8 p.m. No stores have announced when they will reopen. 
  • The Tony Bennett concert at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall will be rescheduled for a date in 2018.
  • The scheduled ticket sale for the Van Wezel’s 2017-18 season is rescheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 16.
  • All Intercoastal Medical Group offices in Sarasota and Manatee counties close at 1 p.m. and will remain closed through Monday, Sept. 11. The date of reopening is uncertain. The Weekend Clinic is also canceled.
  • All Sarasota Tax Collector offices will be closed.
  • "The Crucible" at The Players Centre For Performing Arts is canceled (as well as the shows for Saturday, Sept. 9 and Sunday, Sept. 10)
  • Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium will close at 2 p.m. and is expected to reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 12. 
Saturday, Sept. 9
  • Sarasota County Area Transit bus service will stop at 6 p.m. SCAT will not be in service Sunday, Sept. 10.
  • County parks and libraries and city parks will be closed Saturday and Sunday.
  • The Sarasota Farmers Market is canceled and set to resume Sept. 16.
  • The Players Centre for Performing Arts’ Arnold Simonsen Players Studio Open House will be moved to 6 p.m. on Sept. 22.
  • Taste of Downtown has been moved to 1 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Sarasota Opera House.
  • Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium’s Electrify the Island event has been canceled.
  • The Coalition of City Neighborhood Associations meeting has been canceled. The group will meet next on Oct. 7.
  • Solid waste collection originally scheduled for Saturday due to Labor Day holiday is canceled.
  • The Players Centre For Performing Arts Studio Open House is rescheduled for Friday, Sept. 22 from 6-8 p.m.
  • The Players Centre For Performing Arts production of "Midnight on the Moon" is canceled. Tickets can be exchanged for the next performance on Saturday, Oct. 14.
  • Bobby Jones Golf Club will be closed, due to the landscape maintenance contractor suspending service.
  • The Robert L. Taylor Community Complex will be open 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 
  • The Children’s Fountain will remain closed due to storm debris. A reopen date has yet to be scheduled.
Sunday, Sept. 10
  • All scheduled rentals for indoor and outdoor usage at Sarasota County parks are canceled. 
Monday, Sept. 11
  • City of Sarasota Administrative offices will be closed Monday 
  • Sarasota County Schools will be closed Monday.
  • The initial Sarasota County Commission public budget hearing has been postponed.  
  • Jurors summoned to report to the Judge Lynn N. Silvertooth Judicial Center are excused from jury duty and could be re-summoned at a later date.
  • All scheduled rentals for indoor and outdoor usage at Sarasota County parks are canceled.
  • Classes at The Players Centre For Performing Arts are canceled and will begin Tuesday, Sept. 12 instead.
  • Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium is closed through Tuesday.
Tuesday, Sept. 12
  • City of Sarasota Administrative offices will be closed Tuesday. 
  • Sarasota County Schools will be closed on Tuesday.
  • The St. Armands Business Improvement District meeting has been canceled.
  • Jurors summoned to report to the Judge Lynn N. Silvertooth Judicial Center are excused from jury duty and could be re-summoned at a later date.
Wednesday, Sept. 13
  • Joan M. Durante Park on Longboat Key is closed until further notice.
