Green sea turtle nest spotted on Longboat

Longboat Key Turtle Watch volunteers found the nest on May 30.

The first green sea turtle nest popped up May 30 on Longboat Key. It’s believed to be the first green sea turtle nest on the 36 miles monitored by Mote Marine Laboratory. Cyndi Seamon, vice president of the Longboat Key Turtle Watch, said although rare, they think there will be more green sea turtle nests this year than last year.
