Although only about 10 miles long, it takes a village to make Longboat Key, well, Longboat.

This was Republican Club of Longboat Key President Joe McElmeel’s idea behind the nonpolitical “Summer of Evening Fun” on July 26.

He wanted people to see that despite political differences, things can get done when people decide to work together.

“I thought it’d be a great way for people to see that Democrats, Republicans and independents can work together,” Republican Club of Longboat Key President Joe McElmeel said.

The event served as an opportunity for residents to mingle with various town officials including Mayor Terry Gans, Vice Mayor Ed Zunz, Town Manager Dave Bullock, Public Works Director Juan Florensa, Fire Rescue Chief Paul Dezzi and Police Chief Pete Cumming. Other commissioners and town employees were also in attendance.

While attendees mingled, McElmeel took a few minutes to remind guests to thank the men and women who work to make Longboat Key paradise.
