It might have been the opening for the Women Contemporary Artists Exhibition, but for the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, it was a farewell.

The Women Contemporary Artists Juried Spring Exhibition will be the final gallery shown at the center that is closing in May. Center Manager Kendra Poleshek said the final opening is bittersweet.

“It is [bittersweet] because there’s a certain amount of nostalgia,” she said.

For Marjorie Sayer, who earned first place for her piece “Taomina Talks,” said  Women Contemporary Artists, a group of more than 100 women, doesn’t have a base center. They chose a place for their exhibit each year.

“I think this is such a great [place] for art,” she said. “Look at the light, look at the people it holds.”

The Women Contemporary Artists Juried Spring Exhibition will be on display until May 11. Classes at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts will finish at the end of April.
