Team Euphemia Haye JDRF Walk

What: Raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation with a 5K walk through Joan Durante Park. Participants in the 14th annual walk receive a T-shirt and light breakfast. Each participant is expected to raise at least $100. Call 383-3633 between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

‘Nutrition and Aging’ — Takes place from 2 to 4 p.m. at All Angels by the Sea Episcopal Church, 563 Bay Isles Road. Rick Machemer will discuss which nutrients really matter, the latest fads and what research tells us. Call 383-8161.

 

Thursday, April 7

Operation Kindness Fundraiser — Takes place all day Thursday, April 7. Enjoy a round-robin tennis tournament, nine-hole golf tournament and a barbecue with a raffle and live and silent auctions and raise money for veterans who have sustained emotional and physical injuries during service. Saturday, April 9

‘The Best of Longboat Key’ — Takes place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, 6860 Longboat Drive S. In honor of the town’s 60th anniversary, the art opening will feature work inspired by or created on Longboat Key. All artwork will be for sale, and 40% of proceeds will go toward the arts center. Tuesday, April 12

Longboat Key Democratic Club — Takes place at 11:30 a.m. at Portofino Restaurant, 2600 Harbourside Drive. Susan McManus, distinguished professor of political science at the University of South Florida, speak about the 2016 presidential election. Cost is $25. Call 383-9893.

 

Thursday, April 14

Longboat Key Chamber of Commerce Hob Nob Island Style — Takes place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Longboat Key Club’s Spike ’n Tees, 361 Longboat Club Road.

Mingle with local elected officials, business members and town department heads and enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Cost is $15 for members; $25 for nonmembers. Call 383-2466.
