Motorcyclist killed in Orange Avenue roundabout crash

A motorcyclist died after crashing into the roundabout at Main Street and Orange Avenue in downtown Sarasota early Friday morning.

UPDATE: The motorcyclist has been identified as Aleksandr Vasilevskiy, 27, of Delta Junction, Alaska.

Previously: A motorcyclist died early Friday morning after crashing into the roundabout at the intersection of Main Street and Orange Avenue, the Sarasota Police Department announced today.

Authorities responded to the incident at 1:46 a.m. after the motorcyclist struck the roundabout and was thrown from the vehicle, according to an SPD social media post

Most details regarding the crash are still forthcoming, including the identity of the motorcyclist. Speed is believed to be a factor in the accident.

The downtown intersection was closed for several hours as the police investigated the incident. The roundabout is now open to traffic again.
