Police investigate crash near Fruitville and Beneva

UPDATE: The intersection of Circus Boulevard and Beneva Road has reopened following this afternoon’s crash, the Sarasota Police Department announced at 5:23 p.m.

The male driver of the scooter, whom the department did not identify, remains at Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

PREVIOUSLY: A crash involving a car and scooter at the intersection of Circus Boulevard and Beneva Road has resulted in at least one person with life-threatening injuries, the Sarasota Police Department announced this afternoon.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area around the Beneva and Fruitville Road intersection for at least the next two hours. The intersection of Circus and Beneva is closed following the accident.

The police department did not provide additional details regarding the crash.
