+Sweaty but happy

Panther Ridge resident Ron Powell cringed when his daughter, Candace Powell, asked him to dress as a ring master Aug. 13 for the her 5-K race, the Candy’s Circus Run.

He agreed to sweat it out in his role of masters of ceremonies, despite his better judgement of wearing the thick garb in 90-plus degree heat. It paid off.

The circus-themed run at Nathan Benderson Park raised more than $6,000 for CureSearch for Children's Cancer. Her goal was $5,000.

+It's pure Haven

After more than 60 years serving people with disabilities, Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities is making a name change.

It’s simply, “The Haven.”

CEO Brad Jones said improvements and modernization of the campus created the perfect opportunity to rebrand the agency.

The new logo represents the three stages of life, children, teens and adults. “The Haven is a place of safety and opportunity for people with disabilities,” he said.
