St. Martha celebrates the Greatest Generation
A presentation of the colors, Pledge of Allegiance, singing of the national anthem and a prayer service for veterans, military personnel and their families were all part of the Veterans Day Remembrance Program Nov. 11, at St. Martha Catholic School. Students participated in the program that included guest speaker veteran Phillip Gaines, who served in a segregated unit in France during World War II.

Sunsets to Saris to be pinnacle evening
The East will meet the West for Pineview’s Pinnacle gala, themed “Sunsets to Saris.” The event takes place at 6 p.m. Nov. 22, at the Chelsea Center, 2506 Gulf Gate Drive. Themed cocktails and appetizers will be served while attendees bid on silent auction items and watch a traditional Indian dance performed by Pineview student Neena Patel. Authentic Indian cuisine will be served, followed by a live auction and Bollywood entertainment and dancing. 

Sarasota Military Academy salutes our veterans
The Sarasota Military Academy Parent Teacher Cadet Council hosted the 2nd annual “Honor Our Veterans” ceremony during morning formation Nov. 7. More than 1,000 cadets were present to show appreciation for the 21 military veterans on staff at SMA.

Danny Bilyeu, a representative from Congressman Vern Buchanan's office, attended the ceremony on behalf of Buchanan.

He opened the ceremony by honoring the SMA faculty members who served in the armed forces with a tribute and thanking them for their dedication, service and sacrifice to our country.

Out-of-door Students sing songs of service
The Out-of-Door Academy Lower School students honored military veterans with an annual Veterans Day assembly Nov. 7. The students performed a medley of patriotic songs, including songs representing each branch of the military service. All veterans attending were recognized for their service to our county. The assembly concluded with a reception for students, families and veterans.
