+ Concierge medicine opposed
Dear Editor:
When living on Longboat Key, it becomes obvious there are too many people with too much money finding novel ways to spend it.

One way is to pay $7,000 for a concierge doctor and delude yourself into thinking the cardiologist can also be your family physician and your internal medicine doctor. Is he also the dermatologist and neurologist?

I, on the other hand, pay nothing extra for my Intercoastal medical network of real specialists in every field. I have never had to wait to see a doctor when it was really necessary, nor am I ever rushed through any meeting with a doctor.

Let’s not pretend that wealthy individuals seeking exclusivity means advanced medical care. It means being coddled, something most of us have no need for. I save $7,000 and see the entire array of board certified physicians as needed. Despite Richard Crawford’s knee-jerk reaction in the June 26 Longboat Observer article, the vast majority of seniors are grateful for medicine.

+ Control spending, lower taxes
Dear Editor:
Our Founding Fathers well understood the meaning of tyranny, having lived under the heavy hand of King George of England. They gave their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor to establish a new nation of free people, the United States of America. Let’s remember this on Independence Day, and every day.

Now this once great nation is at a perilous crossroads. Our own government uses the Internal Revenue Service to harass its own citizens. Ever higher taxes and wild government spending are driving us all into poverty and dependence. Our Constitution is ignored. Massive forces continuously try to disarm the people. They know, and we know, that the confiscation of citizens’ weapons has preceded every tyranny in history.

Don’t let it happen here! Pray to God every day for the wisdom to vote for those who will preserve this nation of free men for ourselves and for our posterity, forever.

Dr. John Howell, Ph.D.
