2013: Chief reports 5.6% increase in Fire Rescue calls

Longboat Key Fire Rescue experienced a 5.6% increase in calls in 2013, according to a report Chief Paul Dezzi released this week that details the incidents that the department responded to throughout the year.

The department experienced a 2.7% decrease in fire calls and a 9% increase in EMS calls. Approximately 73% of calls were EMS-related, while the remaining 27% of calls pertained to fire.

Top three reasons for EMS calls
1. Traumatic injury
2. General illness
3. Heart-related
