Sarasota Military Academy Wrestling
The Sarasota Military Academy finished fourth out of 12 teams at the Class 1A-District 11 tournament Feb. 1 in Dunedin.

Eight wrestlers qualified for the Class 1A-Region 3 tournament Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, at Berkeley Prep in Tampa.

Individual qualifiers include:
Connor Steinfeld (second place)
John Gow (second place)
Billy Sadlo (third place)
Xavier Miller (third place)
Logan Gow (third place)
Dalton Burton (third place)
Jake Walker (fourth place)
Anthony Salerno (fourth place)

+ Rams open season with win
The Riverview High softball team defeated Braden River 6-4 Feb. 3 in the season opener for both teams.
Alissa Jackson had three hits and two RBIs to lead the way for the Lady Rams. Deanna Stevens threw a complete game, allowing eight hits and striking out seven.

+ Lady Blazers win district
The Sarasota Christian girls basketball team defeated Donahue Catholic 47-34 to win the Class 2A-District 9 championship Jan. 31.

McKenzie Lantz scored 18 points to lead the way for the Lady Blazers. Heidi Miller finished with 10 points, and Cheyenne Miller added nine points.

Sarasota Christian will host Clewiston Ahfachkee in a regional quarterfinal game Feb. 6.

+ Cougars outlast Tornadoes
The Cardinal Mooney High boys basketball team held on to beat Booker High 71-64 in double overtime Jan. 29.

Ryan McMahon finished with 26 points, five assists and seven steals to lead the way for the Cougars. Matt Hueston added 10 points and 13 rebounds for Cardinal Mooney.

+ The Sailors’ season ends
The Sarasota High boys basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 56-40 loss to Braden River in the Class 7A-District 10 quarterfinals Feb. 3.

The Sailors (12-10) led 16-5 early in the second quarter and held on to a 19-16 lead at halftime, but they were unable to hold off the Pirates’ rally in the second half.

Joey Cavallaro finished with 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the way for Sarasota. Shaquese Johnson added 11 points for the Sailors.

19 - The number of points Jacqueline Kulle scored to lead the Cardinal Mooney girls basketball team to a 33-30 victory over The Out-of-Door Academy in the Class 3A-District 10 championship Jan. 31.

2 - The number of free throws Kulle hit in the final seconds to secure the victory for Cardinal Mooney.

1 - The number of years Kulle has been playing for the Lady Cougars.
