There's no shortage of ways to stay in shape in Florida. We're lucky enough to have workout-friendly weather year round, and when it comes to the wide variety and frequency of 5Ks and other organized events, one could quickly make a habit out of it.

But, if you're anything like us, and the idea of a 7 a.m. Saturday-morning start time (not to mention registration) is borderline nightmarish, rest assured — there's an alternative. After a successful inaugural year, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Central and Northern Florida's Glow Run returns *UPDATE* Friday, May 9, at Nathan Benderson Park.

With a 7 p.m. start time and just as much focus on the beer, glow sticks and party atmosphere, there's really no excuse not to participate.

Max Hannum, co-chairman of the event alongside Molly Jackson, says the race is a good fit for runners of all ages and experience levels — or even for those who just want to party and support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

"It's an affordable way for people to support a great organization, and all the money stays local," he says. "Last year was a blast — it was fun to see the diversity of the runners. Some were competitive runners and some had absolutely no interest in doing anything but drinking beer."

Tickets are $40 in advance, or $50 at the door and include admission, a glow item, beer and access to the after party, where runners will find Bud Light, Michelob Ultra and Sweetwater 420, courtesy of Gold Coast Eagle Distributors.

"That's what the race is all about," says Hannum. "It's geared toward anybody, whether you've never run before, you run a 5K every weekend, or you just want to come party. It's a really fun atmosphere, and it's pretty neat to see all the glow sticks in the dark."
