+ Mustangs wrestling trio goes 8-0
Lakewood Ranch High wrestlers Hunter Reed, Tim Dwyer and Jared Dipsiner all went 8-0 at the Gary Freis Duals Dec. 6 and Dec. 7, in Fort Myers.

Dylan Cameron (126 pounds) went 7-1, and Robert Collier (120) went 6-2.

The Mustangs finished eighth overall out of 16 teams.

+ IMG Academy to add JV football
IMG Academy recently announced it would add a JV football squad for the 2014 season.

In its inaugural season, IMG Academy finished 8-2; several players received Division I offers.

“We look forward to extending our football program to provide more opportunities for student-athletes to develop in what we believe to be the nation’s best college-preparatory program,” IMG Academy Director of Football and head coach Chris Weinke says.

+ Lady Thunder, Lady Blazers tie
The Out-of-Door Academy girls soccer team tied Sarasota Christian 2-2 Dec. 3.

ODA’s Abby Lagasse scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Katy Lang. Trailing 2-1 in the second half, Lexi Murphy scored the tying goal unassisted.

+ Cougars blank the Tornadoes
The Cardinal Mooney High boys soccer team defeated Booker 4-0 Dec. 5. Nick Rigas scored a pair of goals to lead the way for the Cougars. John Rodman had a goal and an assist, and Alex Turner scored a goal. Michael Staikos earned the shutout.

+ Baseball camp to be held at ODA
Current and former baseball greats will share their baseball talents and their Christian testimonies during the Athletes in Christ Major League Believer baseball camp from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 14, at ODA.

The camp is free to all players in grades eight through 12. Those expected to attend the camp include Troy Mattes, Cord Sandberg, Correlle Prime, Carmine Giardina and Robert Hinton, among others.

Athletes in Christ is a Bradenton-based non-profit organization that shares the message of Jesus Christ through baseball camps and other athletic events.

Individuals interested in participating can visit AthletesInChrist.org to download a registration form.

Marauders win pair of championships
The Lakewood Ranch Marauders 8U travel baseball teams won back-to-back championships Nov. 17 and Nov. 24. The Marauders defeated the Braden River Havoc 4-3 to win the STB State Championship Tournament Nov. 17, in Sarasota. A week later, the team defeated the Havoc 10-6 to win the Wreaking Havoc Tournament, in Bradenton.

Championship players include: Dillon Blair, Clayton Dees, Conner Losee, Liam Doran, James Cummings, Max Murphy, Lochlan Radloff, Matthew Joseph, Isaac Wright, Chandler Thiel, Mason Woolever and Andy Schroeder.
