Sarasota County issued a boil-water advisory Monday, Aug. 12, for residents near Pelican Cove Condominiums affected by a weekend water-main break.

The county encourages the roughly 1,000 affected utilities customers between Wharf Road and Pelican Point Drive to "boil all tap water intended for drinking, preparation of food, washing of food utensils, making ice, brushing teeth or for first aid, making sure the water is brought to a rolling boil for one minute."

Though the county does not suspect so, it will collect water samples throughout the week to ensure the water was not contaminated by harmful bacteria, and issue a notice when the advisory is lifted, according to a news release.
