+ Manatee deputies arrest Sarasota suspect
Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested a 30-year-old man who was wanted in Sarasota County for grand theft, resisting arrest and giving a false name.

A report states the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jeremiah Lee, 30, at 2:18 a.m. Sept. 7, at the Burger King parking lot located at 6504 S.R. 64 E., Bradenton.

Deputy units set up at a nearby house, and Lee was spotted emerging from the wooded area between the Circle K and Burger King. He started walking, but began to run when he saw a K-9 unit approaching. K-9 Timo was released and took Lee down to the grass. Lee received a minor puncture wound and scrapes and was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

+ Food drive to aide nutrition for local seniors
Sarasota Comfort Keepers has launched a national initiative aimed at providing nourishment to senior citizens across the county.

Through the Nourish Senior Life campaign, Comfort Keepers franchises are sponsoring food drives within their communities to raise awareness about senior hunger and the importance of good nutrition for seniors.

“Nutrition is a key emphasis within our Interactive Caregiving™ philosophy, because nutrition has an immediate impact on the senior’s life,” said Michael Jones, certified senior adviser and owner of Comfort Keepers in Sarasota and Bradenton. “Nearly 50% of health concerns affecting seniors are connected to a lack of nutrients.”

In Sarasota/Bradenton, the organization is coordinating with All Faiths Food Bank to place collection boxes in the community during September. In East County, the Palm-Aire Country Club, 5601 Country Club Way, Sarasota, is a collection point.

Other collection points in Sarasota include the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, various public libraries and other locations.
