6:40 a.m. — 100 block of Avenida Messina. Attempted Burglary. A woman reported that a shaggy-haired man she didn’t know repeatedly asked to enter her rental unit. Officers determined that the man had rented a neighboring unit but forgot which one.

History in the making
12 a.m. — 400 block of Beach Road. Criminal Mischief. Officers discovered two broken windows at a historical house on Beach Road. There are no suspects or witnesses, and officers did not suspect forced entry.

Closet case
8 a.m. — 6000 block of Midnight Pass Road. Grand Theft. After employing a moving service, a couple reported missing a bracelet and ring both valued at $1,000. They reported that three movers were unsupervised in their closet where they kept the valuables.

Cold shoulder
1:21 p.m. — 600 block of Calle de Peru. Battery. A man used his shoulder to push his roommate (who is also the man’s landlord) to the ground of their shared property; the man injured his nose during the incident. Both men reported that the roommate turned off the property’s air conditioning unit and that the defendant attempted to turn it back on before the ensuing scuffle.

10 p.m. — 5200 block of Ocean Boulevard. Grand Theft. A vacationing man reported that an unknown suspect pick-pocketed his wallet. The victim insisted that it did not fall out of his pants.

Ring sting
1:53 p.m. — 6000 block of Midnight Pass Road. Grand Theft. A woman returned from a two-month hospital stay to find two 14-karat white-gold rings missing from her Siesta Key residence. Her caretaker had put the rings in a dresser drawer at the victim’s request.

Request granted
12:22 a.m. — 1200 block of Stickney Point Road. Refusal to Submit. A man almost backed his vehicle into an officer standing near a bar and was signaled to stop. The man told the officer he “had had a few” alcoholic drinks, that one of the field sobriety tests “was confusing” and asked to be taken to jail. He was taken into custody after using abusive language and refusing a Breathalyzer test.

Keeping count
1:27 a.m. — 100 block of Avenida Messina. Driving Under the Influence. A man was pulled over after weaving out of his lane. He told the officer he was coming from a restaurant and had had a single drink. When asked again, he said he had two drinks. A third query yielded an answer of three. He was arrested for driving under the influence after telling the officer he was a fireman.
