The Sarasota Police Department arrested a 14-year-old runaway last week who’s been identified by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office as a burglary suspect.

Kyle Cartwright, 14, was arrested Oct. 5 by Sarasota Police Officer Steve Campion in the 3100 block of Novus Street with the help of “Nero” the K-9 dog, who tracked the suspect’s scent to the inside of a home.

A rifle and three knives were recovered in Cartwright’s vicinity, and the homeowner confirmed he didn’t give Cartwright permission to enter his home.

Cartwright has been charged with two burglaries and the police department credits “Nero” with stopping an armed burglary that was in progress.
