+ Town Commission will consider property purchase
The Longboat Key Town Commission will consider the purchase of the property at 4110 Gulf of Mexico Drive for $452,500 at its Nov. 7 regular meeting. The property is adjacent to Bayfront Park Recreation Center.

The property was owned by longtime Colony Beach & Tennis Resort owner Dr. Murray “Murf” Klauber’s Two Huts Inc. until September, when First Federal Bank of Florida received the certificate of title following a foreclosure judgment.

+ Sarasota Yacht Club refinances credit facility
Sarasota Yacht Club has refinanced its $12.5 million credit facility that funded the construction of its new clubhouse. The agreement with Bank of America will save members more than $1.6 million in interest over the next five years.

“This refinancing agreement reflects the financial strength of the club as well as the professional management and advisory services available from volunteers such as club Treasurer John Woelfel and our executives, General Manager Bernhard G. Kloppenburg and Controller Michael Borka,” said Jeff Birnbach, former Sarasota Yacht Club commodore, in a prepared statement.

+ Melon-headed whale headed to new facility
Mote Marine Laboratory’s Dolphin and Whale Hospital staff have stabilized Dante, a melon-headed whale, who stranded Oct. 23 on Manasota Key. Staff treated him for pneumonia and gastroenteritis. He will be transferred to SeaWorld Orlando, which has the facilities required to support his rehabilitation.
