Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services will soon begin the adoption process for a number of dogs that became residents of the shelter last week.

Area rescue organizations have accepted half of more than 40 dogs that were turned over to Animal Services last week. Sixteen dogs are now available from the shelter.

Some of the adorable dogs will be ready to find a forever home as early as today, but others still need to be spayed or neutered and are scheduled for their procedures Thursday.

The dogs range in age from one to seven years old and are male and female Dachshund mixes, Chihuahua mixes and Terrier mixes. The litter of lab mix puppies is less than eight weeks old so they will not be ready for adoption until after Christmas.

Anyone interested in adoption can download the application from and must click on the public interest tab and then the animal services tab. Those interested can fill out the form and bring it with them to the shelter at 8451 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota.
