The Longboat Key Town Commission is expected to make a decision on whether to delay its island-wide beach renourishment project for a year at its regular workshop at 1 p.m. today.
Town Manager Bruce St. Denis will present four sand scenarios today that reveal project costs ranging from $35.2 million to $46.2 million.
In addition, the commission will discuss beach project alternatives with University of Florida professor Bob Dean and a Department of Environmental Protection official.
Also at its regular workshop, the Longboat Key Town Commission will:
Consider forwarding to its Monday, Jan. 3, regular meeting for first reading:
• An ordinance that codifies ordinances adopted by the commission through Dec. 6.
Consider a request by the town manager:
• To purchase tasers for all patrol officers through funding from the Law Enforcement Trust Fund.
Consider forwarding to its Monday, Jan. 3, regular meeting for formal action:
A proposed revision to the 2011 Town Commission meeting calendar.
Provide direction to the town manager:
• On how to move forward with a revised Vision Plan and implement its goals and objectives.
• After reviewing a final report submitted by the Organizational Review subcommittee.
• Regarding a request by Key resident Joe Wolfer for consideration of reduced fines assessed by the Code Enforcement Board for a weeds and grass violation he has since brought into compliance.
• Regarding the possibility of using mailed ballots for the 2011 March 8 municipal election.
• About a request by the Manatee County Economic Development Corporation to commit $5,000 to its organization for Longboat key to have an official seat on its board.
