+ Sharks win national title
The Sarasota YMCA Sharks Team won its fourth consecutive national title at the YMCA Short Course National Championship, held April 6 through April 9, in Fort Lauderdale. The championship was the fifth straight title for the girls team, the third for both the boys and the combined team, and the third year of a sweep of all three titles.

The Sharks also set two YMCA national records. Current Y-Nat record holder Corinne Showalter set her third individual Y-Nat record by winning the 400-yard individual medley event, while the boys’ 800-yard free relay team of Nick Caldwell, John Orban, Pat Ceddia and Mark Cox set a new Y-Nat record by more than 4 seconds.

The Sharks took 46 swimmers — its largest team ever — to nationals and set a total of 14 new records.
