+ The City Alliance chairman responds
The City Alliance Chairman Rod Warner responded to e-mails sent to him from Commissioner Jim Brown and Vice Mayor Robert Siekmann that were against roundabout proposals for Sarasota’s bayfront.
In his response, Warner listed more than 10 bullet points, in which he explained that roundabouts will relieve congestion on the Ringling Bridge and help move traffic. Warner also contended that senior citizens embrace roundabouts in Clearwater and The Villages, because “they are moving the same speed seniors want to go — slow.”
Brown called the two points “contradicting.”
+ Pipeline public hearing announced
The United States Coast Guard will hold a public hearing for Port Dolphin’s natural-gas pipeline proposal from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at the Manatee Convention Center, One Haben Blvd., Palmetto. The public hearing follows an informational open house for the project that will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
At the public hearing, residents and officials can address their concerns about the project before a decision is made.
Town officials object to the plan, which they believe jeopardizes white sand sources available for future beach renourishments.
+ Code board weeds out ongoing cases
The Longboat Key Code Enforcement Board resolved cases, levied fines or discussed future fines for six Longboat properties with overgrown yards.
According to town code, grass, or weeds, in some cases, cannot exceed 12 inches or higher.
The board is dealing with the problem, in part, because of rising mortgage foreclosures.
The code board can and has been fining the property owners up to $200 per day for failure to cut the lawns.
