Riverview High football wallops Newsome High 57-3

The Rams led 50-3 at halftime.

Friday night's Riverview High football game against Newsome High was the Rams' third game in nine days, thanks to Hurricane Irma rescheduling madness.

Riverview coach Josh Smithers was worred about the team being too "loosey-goosey" in the days prior, he said.

If the Rams were too loose, or felt gassed, it didn't show on the field.

Riverview was all over Newsome from the game's opening possession and defeated the Wolves 57-3.

"It feels great," senior defensive back Jamar Johnson said of the dominating win. "That's what we plan on doing every week."

Junior running back Ali Boyce ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns, and freshman running back Michael Hayes added a 54-yard touchdown run of his own.

Not much was asked of senior quarterback Arthur Brantley IV through the air, but he made the most of his opportunities, going 5-5 for 76 yards, all to senior wideout Stephon Turner. The pair connected for 76 yards and a touchdown, and Turner would add a 72-yard touchdown catch from backup quarterback Max Fisher in the second half.

The Rams' special teams gave the offense great chances early. They recovered a fumble on a Newsome punt attempt deep in Wolves territory on the first possession of the game, and after a Boyce touchdown and another defensive stop, senior Aaron Pritchett blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown. In the second quarter, junior Jamaris Palmore stripped a Newsome kick returner of the ball and scooped it for another special teams score.

"I was excited to see our special teams making plays," Smithers said. "Our defense has given up 10 points over the three games in nine days. Our defense set the tone, our special teams jumped on board and our offense started out fast. It's hard to say was the best thing about it (the game) was because we played well in all three phases."

The Rams led 50-3 at halftime. The second half featured a running clock and just one possession each for the team's offensive and defensive starters.
