Marge and Joe Langteau have been full-time Longboat Key residents since 2017, when they built their home.

The entryway leads into a wide-open living room that connects to the spacious kitchen. Overhead, exposed wood beams lead from the living room out to the outdoor living space.

“That was in one of the models they had,” Langteau said. “I extended the arches out, so that when you come in the front doors, it just kind of just takes you outside. And then with the big windows and the patio doors, you just start seeing the beautiful views of the water.”

In the water behind the home is their boat, Maya Dream, named for their first grandchild. They often see manatees and other Florida life in the canal.

The Langteaus come from Dallas, where homes are often in a more brick-centric, Victorian style. In Florida, their home couldn’t be lighter.

“Coming here and finding coastal contemporary, that really spoke to us,” Langteau said. “It just kind of stood out, and we just kind of gravitated to that style. The clean, natural look of it, the very open living space. It blends in with the beach house kind of feel.”

The kitchen is the heart of the house where they cook and entertain guests in the massive open space.
