Christ Church fulfills dreams of local kids

For the third year, members of Christ Church Presbyterian held a Christmas party for students of 13th Ave. Dream Center in Bradenton. As usual, Santa arrived with gift bags for the youngsters and they all enjoyed Christmas cookies. A special gift to the school was a selection of books for a lending library. The students, first, second and third graders sang their version of Jungle Bells and three students gave readings. Organizer of the party was Beverly Sutton assisted by several church members.

Party provides cozy sanctuary for Key residents

Sanctuary residents gathered Dec. 13, at the clubhouse, for a festive holiday party. Organized by Marianna Odlen, the buffet included bowls of shrimp, salads and platters of ham. A popular dessert choice was the miniature cream puffs. The evening's cool weather was a topic of conversation; many guests gave thanks they were on the Key and not at northern residences.

Cal Ripken crowns Little League Champs

Trophies and bragging rights were on the line Dec. 4, as dozens of little leaguers hit the diamond in the Cal Ripken Little League Baseball Championships. Champions were crowned in the Rookie, Minor and Major Divisions. In the Rookie Division, the Yankees defeated the Brewers 19-2 to cap off an undefeated season. The Red Sox defeated the Dodgers 9-6 in extra innings to capture the Minors Division championship. In the Majors Division, the Rays beat the Rangers 14-6.
