In three-and-a-half months, Bird Key Yacht Club has undergone renovations to its front entrance, parking lot, entry hall, lobby and has introduced a two-story foyer and port cochere. The project was completed according to budget and just in time for the Commodore's Ball on Saturday, Nov. 19. A ceremonial cannon was fired in conjunction with the doors flying open and the lights coming on. Club members were received by board members and the new and old Commodores. Welcome Home, Bird Key Yacht Club.

The Kiwanis Club of Longboat Key's Gourmet Lawn Party on Saturday, Nov. 19 benefitting St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital as well as local children had a huge turn-out, and provided an even better guest experience than last years. Last year, the event brought in 650 people and this year, there was a minimum of 1,005 attendees. The Kiwanis Club has never sold more than 350 tickets, but sold a record-breaking 400 this year. The event took place at Longboat Key Club island side.
