The phrase “for one night only’’ is most often associated with huge musical acts or stand-up comedians, appearing on stage in a rare engagement.
Tonight, though, the four words apply to Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, and the attraction isn’t Tom Jones or Jerry Seinfeld.
It’s a night-blooming cactus that does its “Queen of the Night’’ thing once a year, when the sun sets. And, from 7 to 11 p.m. at Hobart K. Swan and Janis F. Swan Live Oak Arrival Court, the public can see it happen.

Admission is free, though the garden grounds will be closed.
Guests are encouraged to bring their camera, lawn chair, bug spray, and flashlight. Food and beverages, including wine and beer, will be available for purchase from the Michael’s on East Food Truck.
The species of cactus, Selenicereus, is found in Central America, the Caribbean and northern regions of South America. As twilight falls into darkness, the plant’s blossoms open along the length of the plant for a few hours.
As the morning breaks, the petals close for another year.
Viewing will also be available via livestream on the Selby Gardens Facebook page.
