The 8th annual Sarasota Medieval Fair started this past weekend out at the Sarasota Fairgrounds and will also take place this coming weekend. Thousands of people came out and participated in games and crafts and were able to enjoy watching jousting tournaments, musicians and even watched a human chess match. This year's theme is "Peasant's Revolt".

Seventeen of the top tennis teams from across the country hit the courts for the 2011 Intercollegiate Dick Vitale Clay Court Classic Nov. 11-13 at the Lakewood Ranch Athletic Center. Players competed in singles and doubles tournaments, which count toward individual player rankings. Following the tournament, the players, coaches and sponsors enjoyed an after party at the home of Lakewood Ranch residents Dick and Lorraine Vitale.

East County residents enjoyed an afternoon of food and fun during the fourth annual Chili Cook-Off Nov. 13 on Main Street in Lakewood Ranch. Guests sampled a variety of chili, as Manatee County Emergency Services battled for the title of the county's best chili. Those in attendance also enjoyed listening to the sounds of Paper Airplanes, got an up close look at several fire trucks and ambulances and climbed a rock wall, among other games and activities.

The Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch celebrated its 10th Suncoast Food and Wine Fest Nov. 12, at the Sarasota Polo Club. The event featured more than 300 American and international wines, food from 35 of the area's top restaurants, cooking demonstrations, beer tastings, silent auction, live music and more. Proceeds benefit the charities and projects of the Rotary Club of Lakewood Ranch.

The week closed with the Stone Crab Celebration and Winemaker Auction. Tasting stations manned by guest chefs and culinary chefs prepared dishes showcasing the area, like stone crab claws. Entertainment was provided by live art from artists at the Longboat Key Center for the Arts, a Division of Ringling College of Art and Design and the Ringling College of Art and Design and music from members of the Sarasota Orchestra.

Ten Florida-based bluegrass bands strummed into the East County for the first Rocky Bottom Bluegrass Festival Nov. 12, at Linger Lodge. The daylong event featured plenty of music, food and a variety of vendors. Performers included The Florida Mountain Boys, Passerine, Ernie Evans and the Florida State Bluegrass Band, Highway 41, Swinging Bright, Generations Bluegrass, Trail Dogs, Ramblegrass, Little Girl and the Dreadful Snakes and Sharla June and the Mayhaws.
