Kathy James, a first-time candidate for public office, in this case for the Sarasota County School Board, has obtained quite a real-world education these past 14 years as the mother of four children. But not much of that experience prepared her for the sleaze she has trudged through while campaigning for office.

Kids twist their bodies into fun shapes

From barking in downward dog to hissing in cobra, Yoga from the Heart's Pretzel Yoga class for children ages 5 to 10 explores yoga in a fun and interesting way. Taught by Alex Miller, the class (which is optional for parents) used animated poses, yoga stories and basic stretching exercises Wednesday, July 21, to promote strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. The class meets weekly at 4 p.m. Wednesdays. For more information, call 929-9878.

Cops Corner 07.29.10

A man in a fast-food restaurant drive-thru paid for his order with a $50 bill. He received $42.87 in change. The man drove around the building and pulled into the drive-thru again to order a couple of more hamburgers. Again, he pulled out a $50 bill to pay, but the employee said she didn't have enough change and asked if he had any smaller bills. He said he didn't, and she replied that she had just given him $42.87 in change a few seconds ago.

Cherokee Park home sells for $1.7 million

Nelson Checkoway and Paula Morgan, of Ogunquit, Maine, sold their home at 1758 Cherokee Drive to Michael Bernstein and Sarah Skebba, of Sarasota, for $1.7 million.

The group of children ages 6 to 11 was focusing on 'Travel Around the World' and were experimenting with Asian art and basic brush strokes, while the teens focused on 'Figures in a Wild Culture.'
