The beach was transformed into an exhibit for visitors as sculptors of all ages and abilities competed for cash prizes. Mark Wilson's 'Bonfire' won overall while 'Where's the Peanut?' won first place in People's Choice.

Brookside Middle School students and the City of Sarasota celebrated Arbor Day Friday, May 2. Local organizations, such as Mote Marine Laboratory, visited the school to help educate students on the importance of nature. After the morning activities, students gathered outside where Mayor Shannon Snyder presented a proclamation declaring May 2 Arbor Day in the City of Sarasota. The celebration also included the planting of three trees, donated by Biological Tree Services, in honor of the school's three grades. 'Just like you, these trees will grow,' said Public Works Department General Manager Todd Kucharski.
