Sarasota in Defense of Animals hosted its annual fundraiser Friday, Oct. 26 at the White Sands Cabana on Siesta Key. The fundraiser, titled 'Leis for Strays,' featured a Hawaiian theme, including hula dancers and a Hawaiian drinks. Guests enjoyed hors d'oeuvers and dinner as well as a live and silent auction to benefit the organization.

The Local Bean coffee shop in the Siesta Key Village hosted a fundraiser, called Fur and Feathers, Sunday, Oct. 28. Guests brought their families and pets to the coffee shop to enjoy live music, pet massage, raffles and food, and proceeds benefitted the Wildlife Center of Venice and Satchel's Last Resort.

The 13th annual Firehouse Chili Cook-Off took place on Sunday Oct. 29 by Morton's Gourmet Market. Proceeds from the cook-off went to the Sarasota Firefighters Benevolent fund. People sampled 15 different chilies that were made by the firefighters from 15 stations in Sarasota. They then voted for a People's Choice Award while judges chose first, second and third place. Station 22, Pepper Palace won first place and bragging rights for the year.
