Tropical Storm Debby takes a toll on sea-turtle numbers

Before Tropical Storm Debby, 1,367 turtle nests were marked in the area; after the storm, only 244 nests could be verified. On Longboat, 77 nests were verified.

The twice re-scheduled Longboat Key Invitational Golf Tournament was a successful event hosted by The Longboat Key, Lido Key, St. Armands Key Chamber of Commerce. Fifty-or-so players took their odds on Friday the 13, and David Kovalsky with Sotheby's even got lucky enough to 'beat the pro' on a hole. There were various putting competitions throughout the tournament. West Florida Golf Tour and Nickel Putter teamed up with The LLSA Chamber for the event held at Longboat Key Club and Resort.
