On Aug. 17, Christ Church of Longboat Key, Presbyterian, began clearing a 1.5-acre parcel of land that will be its future site. The preparation is necessary for engineers to assess the parcel.

Sharkey celebrated his 50th birthday this week

Longboat Key Police Deputy Chief Martin Sharkey celebrated the big 5-0 Tuesday, Aug. 25. As of Tuesday, Sharkey, who has been a Longboat Key police officer since March 1981, wasn't planning on any big celebrations - a low-key drink with his squad.
