Democrats gather for first luncheon on the season

The mid-term election results failed to dampen the spirits of the Longboat Key Club Democrat Club as 76 members gathered for the first luncheon meeting of the season Nov. 9, at The Chart House. Guest speaker Dr. Susan MacManus, a political science professor at the University of South Florida, urged the Democrats not to despair. 'Two years is a lifetime in politics,' MacManus said. 'The Republicans have two years to show what they can do, and if they don't, look out.'

Harbor Circle starts off the season

Unusually cool temperatures led to a change in location for the annual start-of-the-season gathering Nov. 8 for Harbor Circle residents. Traditionally held poolside, this year the group moved indoors to the home of hosts Barbara and Gary Huston.

All Angels welcome back brunch

There were no speeches but a lot of smiles and warm greetings as members of All Angels by the Sea congregation gathered Sunday, Nov. 7, for a Welcome Back brunch at the Bird Key Yacht Club. The main topic of conversation was "What did you do this summer." The Rev. David Danner visited with members and shared with them news of upcoming church events.
