The Sheriff's Underwater Recovery Force (SURF) conducted a mock marine search and rescue mission from 1 -3 p.m. Thursday, July 21 at Ken Thompson Park Boat Ramp. The main exercise involved divers dropping from the agency helicopter into the water below, saving a mannequin and dragging the mannequin to a rescue boat. All members of SURF were required to do the mock mission twice.

A groove that appeared in a section of Siesta Drive after a 2010 resurfacing project is to be eliminated by resurfacing July 25. The groove is most noticeable a few feet from the edge of both the north- and southbound lanes.

July 11 BMW omelet 9:59 a.m. - 500 block of Canal Road. Criminal Mischief. A man reported his BMW, which was parked at a resort, had been hit several times with eggs. The dried yolks ate away the car's clear coat, causing at least $200 in damage. Two miles away, another car was egged, suffering chipped paint. Technically speaking, these were two new locations of The Broken Egg.
