A groove that appeared in a section of Siesta Drive after a 2010 resurfacing project is to be eliminated by resurfacing July 25. The groove is most noticeable a few feet from the edge of both the north- and southbound lanes.

July 11 BMW omelet 9:59 a.m. - 500 block of Canal Road. Criminal Mischief. A man reported his BMW, which was parked at a resort, had been hit several times with eggs. The dried yolks ate away the car's clear coat, causing at least $200 in damage. Two miles away, another car was egged, suffering chipped paint. Technically speaking, these were two new locations of The Broken Egg.

Monument donor celebrates 90 years

Thousands of folks have taken photos at the "Unconditional Surrender" monument in Bayfront Park. How appropriate, then, that the famous photo of a sailor kissing a nurse should adorn the 90th birthday cake of Jack Curran, who donated the statue to city of Sarasota.
