Casa del Mar plants seed of excitement on the Key

Bonnie Schneider, of Pelican Harbor, has attended the Casa del Mar cotton plant measuring ceremony for the Guinness World Book of Records two times in the past, and this year brought her visiting son, Chris, daughter-in-law, Norma, and grandson, Sean, to the July 15 ceremony.

River Club resident Shari Medley will participate in the Scenic Shore 150 Bike Tour July 23-24, in Wisconsin, to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Medley will ride in honor of 10-year-old East County resident Joey Baar, who has been battling leukemia since April 2008.

Cops Corner

3 a.m. - 7305 S.R. 70 E. (BP Gas Station). Petit retail theft. The complainant reported an unknown suspect came into the gas station and headed directly to the beer display. He picked up a 24-pack of beer and ran out the door without paying for the beer. The complainant observed the suspect get into the suspect vehicle, which drove toward the Creekwood subdivision. The complainant stated the incident might have been caught on camera. If so, he will bring the video evidence to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. The complainant was given a case number.
