Classic Cops Feb. 24, 1999 12:20 p.m. 1100 block of GMD. Traffic violation, Speeding. 'I'm sorry,' said the driver. 'It's my fault. I'm in a hurry to get to the bathroom.' Driver cited.

Feb. 22 Stunt woman 4:52 a.m. - 3000 block of Wood Street. Suspicious Incident. A woman was seen hanging off a man's car while he drove down the street. She reportedly fell off the car. Police arrived and tried to talk to the woman, but she said she did not want to file a report. She said her ex-boyfriend had moved into her home the previous day, but he was not going to stay there any longer.

Classic Cops Feb. 19, 1980 8:03 p.m. Woman reports she was watching a TV program when two raccoons fell through her ceiling. One escaped, one was captured. Officer states program was not a Walt Disney production, but the later events could have been.

The defendant was arrested for a warrant. During a search of his pockets, the responding deputy found a bag with seven needles in his left front pants pocket and a silver spoon in his right front pants pocket.

Feb. 15 Card shark 2:35 p.m. - 3800 block of South Tamiami Trail. Petit Theft Shoplifting. A greeting-card store employee caught a middle-aged woman stuffing four or five cards into her purse and walking out the door. She was driving a Lexus SUV but didn't want to pay for $15 worth of cards. They were Hallmarks, so the thief cared enough to steal the very best.

Feb. 7 Midnight meeting 1:36 a.m. - 5000 block of Circled Oak Drive. Grand Theft Auto. When a father went to check on his 15-year-old son about midnight, he noticed the teen was not asleep in his room and, in fact, he was not in the house at all. His wife's car was also missing. The mom called the Sheriff's Office and told them to search near the boy's girlfriend's house. Sure enough, there was her son ... and her car. The boy was arrested.

Feb. 1 Dog dazed 3:50 p.m. - 4000 block of South Tamiami Trail. Theft. An employee of a store that sells puppies said a man with a toddler walked into the store and began playing with a 10-week-old dachshund. The man asked the employee what it cost. The employee allowed the man and child to play with the puppy while he left the room to check on the price. When he returned, the man and child were gone. A customer walking into the store said he just saw a man hurry outside with a dachshund stuffed in his shirt. A check of the store revealed a dachshund was missing. Someone was able to get the man's license-plate number before he could drive away.

Jan. 27 More than 'meats' the eye 9:13 a.m. - 2600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive (GMD). Lost Property. A couple called police to report that resort employees were entering their room and taking everything from purses to dirty boxers. Police were able to find the items in question in the room and asked resort employees about the couple's behavior. Five resort employees told police the couple accused them of stealing purses, meatballs left in the refrigerator and other items. No further action was taken.
