The impact of a Sarasota woman's research has gained attention beyond the United States.

Kayla Taylor, a Ph.D. student at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, was named a recipient of the 2026 Zonta International Women in STEM Award in March, receiving a $10,000 grant.

Taylor was nominated by the Zonta Club of Sarasota, which is part of Zonta International, an organization that works to advance the status of women and girls.

“Kayla’s achievements reflect both exceptional academic rigor and a deep commitment to expanding opportunities for women in STEM,” said Marjorie Schmoyer, president of the Zonta Club of Sarasota, in a media release. “We are proud to support her and to see her recognized on an international level.”

Taylor’s research focuses on the growing role of artificial intelligence in aviation and aerospace systems, including questions surrounding ethics, accessibility, and the future of transportation technology.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in astronomy and astrophysics and a master’s degree in aviation with a specialization in space studies, both from Embry-Riddle.
