Sarasota deputy shoots man with a knife

A Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office deputy was not hurt in a shooting incident in Palmer Ranch on Tuesday that sent one person to the hospital, a department spokesman said.

The Sheriff’s Office said wounded man was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he was being treated.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 9 a. m. to 5050 Central Sarasota Parkway, Saratoga Place on a report of a person threatening to harm themselves. Upon arrival, a deputy encountered a man with a knife, advancing on him.

The man did not comply with orders to drop the weapon and was shot. 

The incident remains under investigation.
