The city of Sarasota was notified of the approval of $4 million in state funding to advance three major infrastructure improvements to enhance safety, accessibility and resilience. They are:
- Whitaker Bayou dredging: The state allocated $2.5 million to help restore the depth of the Whitaker Bayou channel. This project is intended to reduce repetitive flooding and improve overall water quality in the area.
- St. Armands Key corridor improvements: Upgrades will be made to primary evacuation routes on St. Armands Key using $1.25 million in state funding. The enhancements are intended to strengthen evacuation readiness, reduce flooding impacts and support faster recovery following tropical weather events.
- Citywide ADA barrier removal: The city received $250,000 in funding to support accessibility upgrades at city facilities to advance ADA goals and improve pedestrian safety throughout municipal buildings, parks and public rights of way.
