High school football roundup: Week four

Only two area teams were victorious in a week filled with tough matchups.

Sarasota

Riverview High (3-1) won 35-7 over Cardinal Mooney High (3-1) on the road. Rams junior running back DJ Johnson had 230 yards and two touchdowns. Rams sophomore running back Isaiah Belt had 110 yards and two touchdowns. Senior quarterback Braxton Thomas added a rushing touchdown. The Cougars got their lone score on the game's first play from scrimmage, a scoop-and-score by senior Zy'marion Lang. The Rams next have a bye week before playing Venice High (1-2) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29 on the road. The Cougars next play Space Coast High (0-4) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 on the road.

Booker High (2-2) lost 28-8 to Berkeley Prep (2-1). Senior Noah Obaseki had the Tornadoes' lone touchdown. Senior quarterback Alex Diaz completed eight of 19 passes for 112 yards and an interception. Senior Ahmad Hunter had 18 carries for 84 yards. Booker will next play Braden River High (2-1) at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at home. 

Sarasota High (0-4) lost 49-31 to Palmetto High (3-1) at home. Senior quarterback Johnny Squitieri completed 12 of 20 passes for 125 yards and threw a touchdown to senior Joe Ziegler while also rushing for three touchdowns. Senior kicker Andrew Clayton hit a 31-yard field goal. The Sailors next play Bishop Verot High (4-0) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at home. 


East County

Braden River High (2-1) lost 28-20 to Manatee High (4-0) on the road. Junior running back/receiver Yahshua Edwards had a 16-yard touchdown run. Junior quarterback Lucas Despot hit senior receiver Matt Schefer for two touchdowns, one of 20 yards and one of 12 yards. The Pirates will next play Booker High (2-2) at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 on the road. 

Lakewood Ranch High (1-3) won 47-7 over IMG Academy Blue (0-3) on the road. Senior running back Simon Freed ran for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Senior quarterback Sebastian Mejia threw touchdowns to senior receivers Dalin Koscielski and Jaron Fields. Junior quarterback Anthony Speciale threw a touchdown to senior receiver Connor Anthony. Junior Cobian Favazza had a two-yard rushing touchdown. The Mustangs will next play Lyman High (3-1) at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 at home.

Parrish Community High (2-1) had its road game against Avon Park High (0-2) canceled because of thunderstorms. The Bulls will next play Southeast High at 7 p.m. Sept. 29 at home. 

The Out-of-Door Academy (1-2) had a bye week. The Thunder will play Faith Christian Academy (2-1) at 7 p.m. Sept. 22 on the road.
