Two nights, two traffic fatalities on South Tamiami Trail

There has been a second traffic fatality in as many nights on South Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. On Thursday evening, a motorcyclist died at Sarasota Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained during a crash at the intersection of South Tamiami Trail and Grove Street.

The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. 

Northbound lanes on Tamiami Trail between Webber and Morris streets were closed for several hours while the Sarasota Police Department Traffic Unit conducted its investigation into the crash.

The fatality follows the death of a 66-year-old woman traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on South Tamiami Trail before crashing into a box truck around 2:45 a.m. Thursday. That crash occurred near Rose Street.
